TOWNSHIP OF BRUCE 
MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING HELD ON SEPTEMBER 11, 2008

 

            The regular meeting of the Bruce Township Board was held on September 11, 2008 with board members Marsh, Avery, Rogers, Sawyers and LaJoie present.  Also in attendance were 14 township residents.  The Supervisor called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance. 

            Steve Mason gave an update on the Lighthouse Tower.  It is now complete and available for high speed internet. 

            Public Comments:  The question was asked about improving the corner of 9 Mile Rd. and M-129 for cars to park.  This is State right of way. 
Discussion was held on violations of zoning rules for mobile homes.

            The minutes of the regular meeting held on August 14, 2008 were presented.  Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Rogers to approve the minutes as presented.  All were in favor, motion carried.

            Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Avery to pay the bills.  Checks # 5174 through # 5213 were issued for a total of $ 49,797.04.   All were in favor, motion carried.

            County Commission Report:  Commissioner LaJoie was no present.

            Reports of Special Meetings:  There were no special meetings.

            Zoning Administrator:  Zoning Administrator, Mike Pins, has issued 3 permits this month.  An inquiry has been made by Grain Communications of Sarosota, Florida  to put up a 300 foot tower by the water for the government for home land security. 

            Planning Commission Report:  There was no meeting in September.

            Treasurer’s Report:  The Treasurers report was read.  The balance of all funds is $593,408.07.  Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Rogers to accept the Treasurers report as presented.  Motion carried.

            Clerk’ Report:  MTA will be having a workshop on Practical Application of Michigan’s Enabling Acts.  It will be held in Grayling on October, 22, 2008 and in Marquette on November 25, 2008.
Discussion was held on adopting a new policy for the fee that will be charged to candidates that request absent voter lists and the complete list of voters in Bruce Township.  Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Rogers to adopt a policy with a fee of $15.00 for the absent voter list and $25.00 for the complete list of voters.  All were in favor, motion carried.

            Firemen’s Report:  The Department had no calls this month.
The Firemen’s Pig Roast will be October 18 from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m.

            Grounds and Park Report:  They are working on the horse shoe courts.  Plans are being worked on for a softball field.  The volley ball nets will be put up in the spring.

            Old Business:  The Fire Hall driveway is in need of repairs and gravel.  The Fire Chief will take care of getting the driveway repaired.

            New Business:  Autore Oil is offering a Pre Buy capped price of $2.49 for the Fire Hall and Township Hall for 2008 – 2009.  Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by Avery to enter into pre buy with Autore Oil for $2.49 a gallon.  All were in favor, motion carried.  $3500.00 will be put on the Fire Hall and $7500.00 will be put on the Township Hall.   

            Michigan State University will be offering a workshop on Zoning Board of Appeals Training in Kincheloe on November 5, 2008.

            Public Comments:  The question was asked about the status of Bruce Township School.
Offense was taken over some things that were written about the Planning Commission in the newsletter.
The question was asked if the money from the ball field on 9 Mile Rd. was used for the Parks and Recreation.  Yes it was.

            Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Rogers to adjourn the meeting.  All were in favor, motion carried.  The Supervisor adjourned the meeting at 8:05 p.m.
