TOWNSHIP OF BRUCE
MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING HELD ON AUGUST 9, 2007
The regular meeting of the Bruce Township Board was held on August 9, 2007 at the Bruce Township Hall with board members Gallagher, Marsh, Avery, Sawyers and LaJoie present. Absent none. Also in attendance were 5 township residents. The Supervisor called the meeting to order at 7:00 with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Public Comments: There were no comments.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on July 12, 2007 were presented. Motion was made by Marsh, seconded by Avery to approve the minutes as presented. All were in favor, motion carried.
Motion was made by Marsh, seconded by LaJoie to pay the bills. Checks # 4570 through # 4611 were issued for a total of $ 23,470.22. All were in favor, motion carried.
County Commission Report: Commissioner LaJoie was absent.
Special Meetings: There were no special meetings.
Zoning Administrator: There were 12 permits issued this month. Three applications were issued for the position of Zoning Administrator with no response. Mike Schmidt will continue to issue the permits with the Supervisor helping out when Mike is not available.
Planning Commission Report: The Planning Commission did not meet in August.
Treasurer’s Report: The Treasurers report was read. The balance of all funds is $486,491.90. Motion was made by Marsh, seconded by Avery to accept the Treasurers report as presented. All were in favor, motion carried.
Clerk’s Report: There was no correspondence.
Firemen’s Report: The Department responded to one car accident.
The pig roast will be October 20, 2007.
The Department has had 6 firemen helping the DNR for two days with the fire in Newberry.
Grounds and Parks Report: After the Public Hearing on the 9 Mile boat launch, the grant people were notified and we must own the land before applying for money for the boat launch. The Supervisor called the local DNR Biologist to see if they would be interested in acquiring the property since it adjourns theirs. If something can’t be worked out, the launch will be a dead issue.
Old Business: The resurfacing of Scenic Dr. has been completed.
New Business: A letter was received from the Department of Corrections on July 19, 2007 that stated as of August 17, 2007, all public service contracts would be canceled. In a telephone conversation with Gary McDowell, we have been told that when the October budget is in effect, the prison crew will be reinstated.
Discussion was held on how the township property has grown up to brush. It was agreed to get someone to brush hog it once a year. The Supervisor will look into some ideas and prices.
A budget adjustment is needed in the Fire and Ambulance Budget. Motion was made by Sawyers, seconded by Marsh to increase #920, Electricity by $92.00 and decrease # 694, Contingency by $92.00. All were in favor, motion carried.
Land Division was presented by Treasurer LaJoie for Larry and Sandra Putnam. Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Marsh to accept the land division on 9 Mile Rd for Larry and Sandra Putnam. Motion carried.
Land Division was presented for Jeanette Roy. Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Marsh to accept the land division on 7 Mile Rd. for Jeanette Roy. Motion carried.
Discussion was held on the price that Waste Management charges for garbage pickup. Trustee Marsh will get prices from Smith Sanitation.
Motion was made by Avery, seconded by LaJoie to give the Homemakers $1,000.00 for the Senior Citizen Dinner. All were in favor, motion carried.
Discussion was held on office furniture. Motion was made Avery, seconded by Marsh to have the Clerk and Treasurer look into what they need. All were in favor, motion carried.
Public Comments: There were no comments.
Motion was made by Avery, seconded by LaJoie to adjourn the meeting. All were in favor, motion carried. The Supervisor adjourned the meeting at 7:55 p.m.
