TOWNSHIP OF BRUCE

MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING HELD ON AUGUST 12, 2010 

 

 

              The regular meeting of the Bruce Township Board was held on August 12, 2010 at the Bruce Township Hall with board members Marsh, Avery, Rogers, Sawyers and LaJoie present.  Absent none.  Also present were two township residents.  The Supervisor called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

              Public Comments:  There were no comments.

 

              The minutes of the regular meeting held on July 8, 2010 and the minutes of the special meeting held on July 16, 2010 were presented.  Motion was made by Avery, seconded by LaJoie to approve the minutes as presented.  All were in favor, motion carried. 

 

              Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by Avery to pay the bills.  Checks # 6160 through # 6205 were issued for a total of $57,812.99.    All were in favor, motion carried.

 

              County Commission Report:  There was no report.

 

              Reports of Special Meetings:  No one attended any special meetings.

 

              Zoning Administrator:  There have been 22 permits issued this year.

              The Adam’s property on Nicolet Rd. is being cleaned up.

              The tower on Riverside and 10 Mile Rd. is under construction.

 

              Planning Commission Report: There was no Planning Commission meeting in August.

 

              Treasurer’s Report:  The Treasurer’s report was read.  The balance of all funds is $754,420.40.  Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Rogers to accept the Treasurer’s report as read.  Motion carried.

  

              Clerk’s Report:  MTA will sponsor a seminar on September 21 in Gaylord on “Understanding the Costs and Benefits of Sharing Services with Other Local Government.”

              There were 326 people voted in the August Primary.

 

              Firemen’s Report:  There were no fire calls.

 

              Grounds and Park Report:  There was no report.

 

              Old Business:  The Supervisor talked to the Chippewa County Road Commission today about black topping some roads for $51,000.00 a mile.  Some suggestions are Nicolet Rd. between 8 and 9 Mile Rd., Lower Hay Lake Rd. between 11 and 12 Mile Rd. and 71/2 Mile Rd. and Lower Hay Lake Rd.  Discussion followed.  It was decided to have some actual figures before any decisions would be made. 

              The Supervisor and Treasurer are working on writing the Assessor Contract bid.

 

              New Business:  The Annual Senior Citizen’s dinner will be October 2, 2010.  Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Rogers to give the Homemakers $1300.00 to be used for the dinner.  All were in favor, motion carried.

 

              At the Annual Meeting held on Saturday, March 27, 2010 a public hearing on Budgeting and Truth in Taxation was held.  Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Marsh to adopt the resolution to levy the following millages for 2010 to be levied upon property located in Bruce Township as set forth in the “2010 TAX REQUEST’.  Allocated operating, 1.6231, Voted road improvement, 1.000, Voted road improvement, 1.5000.  Roll call vote:  Yeas – Marsh, Rogers, Avery, Sawyers and LaJoie. Nays – 0.  Resolution unanimously adopted.

 

              The Township is in need of a trailer to transport the lawn mower to Dunbar Park and the Cemetery.  Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by Avery to purchase a trailer from Tractor Supply for the Township.  All were in favor, motion carried.

 

              On Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at the Bruce Township Hall from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., a public hearing will be held by the DNR on the boat launch at Conely’s Point.

  

              Land Division was presented for Jim and Donna Benoit on M-129 and 7 Mile Rd.  Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Marsh to accept the land division for Jim and Donna Benoit on M-129 and 7 Mile Rd.  All were in favor, motion carried.

 

              Public Comments:  There were no comments.

 

              Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Rogers to adjourn the meeting.  All were in favor, motion carried.  The Supervisor adjourned the meeting at 7:45 p.m.
