TOWNSHIP OF BRUCE
MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING HELD ON JULY 9, 2009
The regular meeting of the Bruce Township Board was held on July 9, 2009 at the Bruce Township Hall with board members Marsh, Avery, Rogers, Sawyers and LaJoie present. Absent none. Also in attendance were two township residents. The Supervisor called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Public Comments: There were no comments.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on June 11, 2009 were presented. Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Avery to approve the minutes as presented. All were in favor, motion carried.
Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Rogers to pay the bills. Checks # 5615 through # 5654 were presented for a total of $ 14,880.95. All were in favor, motion carried.
County Commission Report: Don McClain, County Commissioner was not in attendance.
Reports of Special Meetings: The Supervisor attended the County Road Commission meeting. The County has hired 3 new employees. The paperwork has been signed to blacktop Nicolet Rd. for a distance of approximately 2 miles from 6 Mile Rd. to 8 Mile Rd. with a cost of $135,000.00.
Zoning Administrator: There have been 18 permits issued. There were 7 for new homes.
Planning Commission: There was no meeting in July.
Treasurer’s Report: The Treasurers report was read. The balance of all funds is $732,367.82. Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Rogers to accept the Treasurer’s report as presented. Motion carried.
Clerk’s Report: The water test for the Hall showed nothing detected.
There were 115 vouchers given out for spring clean up.
MTA is sponsoring a weekend seminar on September 18 and 19, 2009 in Saginaw to help deal more effectively with everyday issues the board faces.
Firemen’s Report: There were no fires this month.
Grounds and Park Report: There has been no meeting.
Old Business: On March 11, 2002, an amendment was passed to amend paragraph 7 of the Township Board Resolution to establish a Township Planning Commission to read that Special Land Use decisions would be the responsibility of the Planning Commission. On the advice of our Attorney, it is recommended that paragraph 7 be amended to read that all final decisions shall be subject to approval of the township board. Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by Avery to adopt the amended resolution to read all final decisions of said planning commission other than those involving the election of its own officers and adoption of its own rules and procedures shall be subject to approval of the township board before same shall be effective. Roll call vote – Yeas, Rogers, Avery, Marsh, Sawyers and LaJoie. Nays – 0. Resolution adopted.
New Business: The July Board of Review will be July 22, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. This meeting is for clerical errors.
The boat launch sign on 12 Mile Rd. has been damaged and is need of repairs. Putting a sign at Dunbar Park was also discussed. The Supervisor will get some prices.
A letter was received from Dan Rice at 9668 S. Ridge Rd., requesting the township support snow removal from 10 Mile Rd. north to his property. Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Rogers to support the request for winter snow removal from a section of Ridge Rd. running from 10 Mile Rd. north to the Rice property. All were in favor, motion carried.
The Treasurer request the Township hire Attorney Charles Palmer to collect delinquent personal property taxes in Small Claims Court. Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Rogers to hire Attorney Palmer to collect personal property taxes for the Township in Small Claims Court. All were in favor, motion carried.
Public Comments: There were no comments.
Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by Avery to adjourn the meeting. All were in favor, motion carried. The Supervisor adjourned the meeting at 7:50 p.m.
