TOWNSHIP OF BRUCE
MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING HELD ON JUNE 9, 2011
The regular meeting of the Bruce Township Board was held on June 9, 2011 at the Bruce Township Hall with board members Marsh, Rogers, Sawyers and LaJoie present. Absent Avery. Also in attendance were 7 township residents. The Supervisor called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Public Comments: A letter was read from the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, Bureau of Commercial Services in regard to Complaint No. 316968 on the Donaldson Cemetery.
Bernard LaJoie commented on his thanks to the Bruce Township Fire Department for their quick response to his garage fire. The Township should be very proud and pleased with this group of volunteer firemen.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on May 12, 2011 were presented. Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Marsh to approve the minutes as presented. All were in favor, motion carried.
Motion was made by Marsh, seconded by LaJoie to pay the bills. Checks #6555 through #6591 were presented for a total of $ 38,804.21. All were in favor, motion carried.
County Commissioner Report: Commissioner McLean was not present.
Reports of Special Meetings: No one attended any special meetings.
Zoning Administrator: There have been 9 permits issued this month.
The ordinance violations on 15 Mile Rd. and 7 Mile Rd. are being taken care of.
Planning Commission Report: There was no meeting in June.
Treasurer’s Report: The Treasurer’s report was read. The balance of all funds is $668,754.66. Motion was made by Sawyers, seconded by Marsh to accept the report as read. Motion carried.
Clerk’s Report: A letter was received from the Eastern Upper Peninsula Regional Planning & Development Commission notifying us that Pickford Township Planning Commission and Pickford Township Board has approved the Pickford Township Master Plan. A public hearing will be held on August 2, 2011 at the Pickford Township Hall at 7:00 p.m.
A letter was received from the Chippewa County Clerk with a copy of Chippewa County’s redistricting plan for County Commissioners.
Firemen’s Report: The Department had 5 fire calls this month.
4 out of the 5 firemen who recently took training have been certified.
Grounds and Park Report: The dock has been put in at Dunbar.
The tables will be painted as soon as the paint arrives.
The bases that were ordered for the ball field have arrived.
The Health Department will be testing the water at Dunbar this summer.
The boat launch at Conley’s Point will be done next year.
Old Business: The brine for the roads will be here on June 16 & 17 and on June 20th.
Spring Clean Up had 97 residents using the land fill for a total of $1,346.57.
We have not received price figures from the County Rd. Commission on the cost of repairing Ridge Rd.
The cost of black top will be $65,000.00 a mile this year.
Resurfacing M-129 from 10 Mile Rd. to 3 Mile Rd. will begin on Monday, June 13th.
A committee will be formed to work on getting colors and prices on siding for the Township Hall. Carolyn Person has offered to work on that committee.
The painting on the interior of the Hall has not been finished.
New Business: Land Division was presented for Bruce Rye. Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Marsh to approve the land division as presented. All were in favor, motion carried.
Carolyn Person spoke on the art work that has been donated by local artists for the walls of the Township Hall. The pictures will be secured to the wall and plaques will be added to help people identify information about each painting.
Carolyn Person will be attending a Historical Society Workshop in Marquette on June 17-19, 2011.
20 new chairs have been purchased for the Township Hall.
In a letter from the Chippewa County Treasurer, the following parcels 002-002-007-75 and 002-069-008-01 are foreclosed parcels of land in Bruce Township. These small parcels can only be used for Township use. The Township has the “first right of refusal” to acquire tax-foreclosed parcels. It was decided to refuse our first right of refusal to both parcels.
Public Comments: There were no comments.
Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by LaJoie to adjourn the meeting. All were in favor, motion carried. The Supervisor adjourned the meeting at 8:00 p.m.
