TOWNSHIP OF BRUCE
MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING HELD ON MAY 14, 2009

 

            The regular meeting of the Bruce Township Board was held on May 14, 2009 at the Bruce Township Hall with board members Marsh, Avery, Rogers and LaJoie present.  Absent Sawyers.  Also in attendance were 5 township residents.  The Supervisor called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.

            Public Comments:  There were no comments.

            The minutes of the regular meeting held on April 9, 2009 were presented.  Motion was made by Avery, seconded by LaJoie to approve the minutes as presented.  All were in favor, motion carried.

            Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by Avery to pay the bills.  Checks # 5514 through # 5563 were presented for a total of $ 28,353.92.   All were in favor, motion carried.

            County Commission Report:  There was no report.

            Report of Special Meetings:  Supervisor attended the Chapter MTA meeting.

             Zoning Administrator:  There have been 8 permits issued.  The Zoning Permit is now on line and can be sent directly to the Zoning Administrator.

            Planning Commission:  There was no meeting held in May.

            Treasurer’s Report:  The Treasurers report was read.  The balance of all funds is $753,956.20. 

            Clerk’s Report:  There was no report in the absence of the Clerk.

            Firemen’s Report:  There was three fire calls this month.

            Grounds and Park Report:  There was a meeting on April 28, 2009.  They discussed volley ball nets, ball field backstop and soccer nets will be put out soon.

            Old Business:  Brine is scheduled for May 27 and May 28.

            New Business:  There were 19 bidders for replacing the roof on the Township Hall.  The bid was awarded to Dan Rye Builders in the amount of $19,202.08.

            The Supervisor had talked to Glen Atkins on a price for rocks to replace the fence at Dunbar Park.  Atkins gave a price at $30.00 a rock set in place at five feet apart.  It would take approximately 60 rocks, which would be about $1800.00.  Supervisor asked for discussion.  The Board agreed this would be a good solution rather than replacing the fence every few years.  Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by Avery to hire Glen Atkins to put in enough rock to replace the fence.  All were in favor, motion carried.

            Supervisor informed the Board that damaged boards had been replaced on the tables at the Park.

            Discussion was held on putting in a ball field back stop.  A bid of $2,450.00 was received from Robinson Fence Co. to put in a back stop 20 feet wide in the middle with 2 -10 feet wings, 16 ft. high.  Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Marsh to accept the bid from Robinson Fence Co.  All were in favor, motion carried.

            The ball field will need approximately 11 to 12 loads of sand.  A bid of $1,000.00 was received from Henry Palmer and he will donate the use of his dozer.  Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by Marsh to have Henry Palmer haul the sand for the ball field.  In favor, Marsh, LaJoie and Rogers.   No- Avery.  Motion carried.

            Public Comments:  Neil Moran  asked on the status of Nicolet Rd.  The County will be starting Nicolet Rd. as soon as it dries up.

            Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Rogers to adjourn the meeting.  All were in favor, motion carried.  The Supervisor adjourned the meeting at 7:25 p.m.
