TOWNSHIP OF BRUCE
MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING HELD ON MAY 13, 2010
The regular meeting of the Bruce Township Board was held on May 13, 2010 at the Bruce Township Hall with board members Marsh, Avery, Roger, Sawyers and LaJoie present. Absent none. Also present were 7 township residents. The Supervisor called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Public Comments: Pat Cleary, president of the St. Mary’s River Sportsman Club, was present with a resolution for a charitable gaming license for the Sportsman Club. Motion was made by James Avery, seconded by Ruth LaJoie to adopt the resolution for Local Governing Body for Charitable Gaming License for the St. Mary’s River Sportsman Club. Roll call vote: Yeas, Rogers, Avery, Marsh, Sawyers and LaJoie. Nays – None. Resolution was adopted.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on April 8, 2010 were presented. Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Avery to approve the minutes as presented. All were in favor, motion carried.
Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by Avery to pay the bills. Checks # 6024 through # 6065 were presented for a total of $ 15,561.85. All were in favor, motion carried.
County Commissioner Report: Commissioner McLean was not present.
Reports of Special Meetings: No one attended any special meetings.
Zoning Administrator: There have been 6 permits issued this month. The annual task of assessing the junk in the Township will be started this month.
Planning Commission Report: The Planning Commission met on Tuesday, May 11, 2010. Election of officers was held with Paulette Lightfoot, Chairman, Marjorie Mitchell, Secretary. Jeremy McLean will be the representative to the Board of Appeals.
Treasurer’s Report: The Treasurer’s report was read. The balance of all funds is $752,791.16. Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Rogers to accept the Treasurer’s report as presented. Motion carried.
Clerk’s Report: On June 29, 2010 in Gaylord, MTA will hold a seminar on “Effective Policies & Procedures for Managing Your Township.”
On June 17, 2010 in Battle Creek, MTA will hold two seminars on “Creating a Vision for Your Township” and “Linking with the Community.”
Discussion was held on things that need to be updated to make the polling place accessible for people with disabilities.
Firemen’s Report: The Department had 8 fire calls this month.
Grounds and Park Report: The Grounds and Park Committee met last month and prepared a survey that they would like put in the newsletter. The volley ball posts are up and when the wind goes down the net will be put up.
Old Business: Discussion was held on renewing the road millage at the August Primary. Motion was made by Marsh, seconded by Rogers to adopt the resolution to renew the two township road millages for 4 years. One renewal is for 1.5 mills and the other for 1 mill. Roll call vote – Yeas, Marsh, Avery, Sawyers, Rogers and LaJoie. Nays – none. Resolution was adopted.
The Chapter MTA meeting will be held at Bruce Township on May, 20, 2010. A cookout will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tim McKee from Emergency Services and Rob Laitinen will be guest speakers.
Spring Clean Up will be May 21st and May 22nd.
New Business: Ken Miller from Bayliss Library gave a report on the things that the library has to offer and the number of people who use it. We pay $100.00 so that Bruce Township residents have the use of the library. We will discuss later a fee increase.
A local approval notice was received from Michigan Liquor Control Commission to transfer ownership of liquor license Central Business Corporation to D.A.B. North, LLC. Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Avery to adopt the resolution request to transfer ownership of 2009 Class C License with dance-entertainment permit, located at 6800 E. Fifteen Mile Rd., Barbeau, MI 49710, Bruce Township, Chippewa County, from Central Business Corporation to D.A.B. North, LLC. Roll call vote: Yeas – LaJoie, Sawyers, Marsh, Avery and Rogers. Nays – 0. Resolution adopted.
Land Division was presented for Jack and Gloria Emplit. Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Avery to accept the land division for Jack and Gloria Emplit. All were in favor, motion carried.
Public Comments: The Bruce Township Historical Society will be holding a music festival on August 22, 2010 at 1:00 p.m.
M-129 will be closed on Tuesday to begin work on the bridge between 11 Mile Rd. and 12 Mile Rd.
The Zoning Board of Appeals members will be appointed at the June meeting.
Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Rogers to adjourn the meeting, All were in favor, motion carried. The Supervisor adjourned the meeting at 8:10 p.m.
