TOWNSHIP OF BRUCE

MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING HELD ON MAY 12, 2011

 

 

            The regular meeting of the Bruce Township Board was held on May 12, 2011 at the Bruce Township Hall with board members Marsh, Sawyers, Avery, LaJoie and Rogers present.  Absent none.  Also in attendance were 6 township residents.  The Supervisor called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

            Public Comments:  There were no comments.

 

            The minutes of the regular meeting held on April 14, 2011 were presented.  Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Rogers to approve the minutes as presented.  All were in favor, motion carried.

 

            Motion was made by Avery, seconded by LaJoie to pay the bills.  Checks # 6510 through # 6554 were presented for a total of $ 35,865.79.  All were in favor, motion carried.

 

            County Commissioner Report:  Commissioner McLean was not present.

 

            Reports of Special Meetings:  The Treasurer and Clerk attended the Spring MTA regional meeting in St. Ignace. 

 

            Zoning Administrator:  There have been 3 permits issued this month.

 

            Planning Commission:  There was no meeting in May.

 

            Treasurer’s Report:  The Treasurer’s Report was read.  The balance of all funds is $682,041.84.  Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by Avery to accept the report as read.  Motion carried.

 

            Clerk’s Report:  MTA is sponsoring two seminars on June 15, 2011in Gaylord.  One on “Introduction to Millage Questions” and the other on “Hot Topics in Planning and Zoning”.

 

            Firemen’s Report:  The Department had 4 calls this month.  

 

            Park and Grounds Report:  The DNR are suppose to put the dock in at Dunbar Park this week.  The County Road Commission filled the pot holes in the driveway.

 

             Old Business:  One bid was received for the old lawn mower.  Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by LaJoie to accept the bid of $100.00 from Bill Hillock.  All were in favor, motion carried.

 

            Discussion was held on getting some Township roads on the list for road work that needs done.  One road that was discussed was Ridge Road.  The Supervisor will talk to the County Road Commission on what roads they recommend that are in need of repair.            

 

            New Business:  Pro-Sports have bases for the baseball field.  Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Marsh to purchase bases for the baseball field for $350.00.  In favor - Marsh, Avery, Sawyers and LaJoie.  Opposed – Rogers.  Motion carried.

 

            Public Comment:  A report was given on signatures that have been gathered and sent to the State in regards to the up keep of Donaldson Cemetery. 

 

            Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Rogers to adjourn the meeting.  All were in favor, motion carried.  The Supervisor adjourned the meeting at 7:30 p.m.
