TOWNSHIP OF BRUCE

MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING HELD ON MAY 10, 2007

 

The regular meeting of the Bruce Township Board was held on May 10, 2007 at the Bruce Township Hall with board members Gallagher, Marsh, Avery, Sawyers and LaJoie present. Absent none. Also in attendance were 6 township residents. The Supervisor called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Public Comments: There were no comments.

The minutes of the regular meeting held on April 12, 2007 were presented. Motion was made by Marsh, seconded by LaJoie to approve the minutes as presented. All were in favor, motion carried.

Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Marsh to pay the bills. Checks # 4446 through # 4482 were issued for a total of $31,524.72. All were in favor, motion carried.

County Commission Report: Commissioner LaJoie stated that the County is having the same financial struggles as most government agencies.

Special Meetings: The Supervisor, Treasurer and Lou MacDonald attended a Chapter MTA meeting at Superior Township. Sharon Kennedy and Tim McKee were the speakers.

Zoning Administrator: The Zoning Administrator was absent but there has been 7 permits issued.

Planning Commission Report: The Planning Commission met on Wednesday, May 9, 2007.

The Commission is working on wrapping up definitions of the zoning districts.

The Commission is also working on eliminating the well monitoring provision for gravel pits. There will be a public hearing at the next Commission meeting.

Treasurer’s Report. The Treasurers report was read. The balance of all funds is $508,372.32. Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Marsh to accept the report as presented. All were in favor, motion carried.

Clerk’s Report: The School Election was held on Tuesday with 215 people voting.

There will be a MTA workshop on At Your Service: Meeting Township Needs on Monday, June 25, 2007 at Mt. Pleasant.

There will be a MTA workshop on What You Need to Know About Personnel Policies, Hiring and Firing on June 12, 2007 at the little Bear East Arena, St. Ignace.

Chippewa County Road Commission will no longer keep chloride on hand. The Township would have to order in bulk.

Great Lakes Fire and Safety did a kitchen range hood inspection. They recommended a different fire extinguisher. Fire Chief Andrews will call for the information.

Firemen’s Report: The Department had 2 fire calls.

Two of the fire trucks have been certified.

There are five people taking firemen classes.

Grounds and Park Report: The next meeting of the Park and Recreation Committee will be on Wednesday, May 15, 2007.

The Committee would like to have a public hearing on the Parks and Recreation Master Plan.

The Committee is continuing to work on finishing up some of the projects at the Township Park.

Old Business: The Spring Clean Up will be held on Friday, May 18, Saturday, May 19, Friday, June 1 and Saturday, June 2.

Chloride for the roads is scheduled for May 28 and May 29.

Discussion was held on putting an administrative fee on the tax bills. Motion was made by Gallagher, seconded by Marsh to adopt a resolution to put an administrative fee of 2% on the tax bills. Roll call vote: Yeas, Gallagher, Marsh, Avery, Sawyers and LaJoie. Nays, none.

New Business: Land Division was present for Hans and Sheryl Christiansen on E. 12 Mile Rd. Motion was made by Marsh, seconded by Avery to accept the land division for Hans and Sheryl Christiansen. Motion carried.

Land Division was presented for Daniel Lasley on E. 14 Mile Rd. Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Marsh to accept the land division for Daniel Lasley. Motion carried.

Land Division was presented for Gerald Roger on E. 12 Mile Rd. Motion was made by Avery, seconded by LaJoie to accept the land division for Gerald Rogers. Motion carried.

Public Comments: Trustee Marsh is a Grandpa. Congratulations Carl.

Motion was made by Avery, seconded by LaJoie to adjourn the meeting. All were in favor, motion carried. The Supervisor adjourned the meeting at 7:50 p.m.
