TOWNSHIP OF BRUCE

MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING HELD ON APRIL 8, 2010

 

            The regular meeting of the Bruce Township Board was held on April 8, 2010 at the Bruce Township Hall with board members Marsh, Avery, Sawyers, LaJoie and Rogers present.  Absent none.  Also present were 3 township residents.  The Supervisor called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.                    

 

            Public Comment:  There were no comments.

 

            The minutes of the regular meeting held on March 11, 2010 were presented.  Motion was made by Avery, seconded by LaJoie to approve the minutes as presented.  All were in favor, motion carried.

 

            The minutes of the Special meeting held on March 17, 2010 were presented.  Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Avery to approve the minutes as presented.  All were in favor, motion carried.

 

            The 2010-2011 Budget was presented.  Motion was made by Avery, seconded by LaJoie to accept the 2010-2011 Budget as presented.  Roll call vote: Yeas, Rogers, Avery, Marsh, LaJoie and Sawyers.  Nays:  none.  Budget was adopted.

 

            Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by Avery to pay the bills. Checks #5962 through # 6023 were presented for a total of $35,572.62.    All were in favor, motion carried.

 

            County Commissioner Report:  Commissioner McLean was not present.

 

            Reports of Special Meetings:  The Clerk attended an election meeting on April 6th.  On Thursday, March 18th, the Supervisor attended a MTA meeting on Zoning Boards and Planning Commissions.

           

            Zoning Administrator:  There have been no permits issued.

 

            Planning Commission:  The Planning Commission met on Tuesday, April 6, 2010.  A public hearing was held on the changes in the Zoning Ordinances.  Election of officers was tabled until next meeting.

 

            Treasurer’s Report:  The Treasurer’s report was read.  The balance of all funds is $768,441.12.

 

             Clerk’s Report:  The hall water test showed nothing detected.

            MTA’s Spring 2010 regional meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 in St. Ignace.  Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded Marsh to pay for board members who would like to attend.  All were in favor, motion carried.  Early registration is by May 4th.

 

            Firemen’s Report:  The Department had 3 fire calls this month.

            Motion was made by Marsh, seconded by Avery to adopt the standard operating procedures for the Fire Department.  All were in favor, motion carried.

 

            Grounds and Park Report:  The boat dock is in.  A meeting will be held on May 15, 2010.

 

            Old Business:  Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Rogers to purchase brine from Michigan Chloride when it is needed.  All were in favor, motion carried.  The cost is 2cents a gal. less than last year.

 

            Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by Avery to have Spring Clean Up on May 7th and May 8th and on May 21st and May 22nd.  All were in favor, motion carried.

The Township will pay for one 500 lb load.

 

            The Sault Area School has said that the Township can have the two signs from Bruce School.

 

            New Business:  Payne and Dolan were to be present with a presentation to store used shingles on site at there asphalt plant.  They did not attend. 

 

            The 2010 – 2011 board meeting dates are as follows:  April 8, 2010, May 13, 2010, June 10, 2010, July 8, 2010, August 12, 2010, September 9, 2010, October 14, 2010, November 11, 2010, December 9, 2010, January 13, 2011, February 10, 2011, March 10, 2011 and the Annual Meeting on March 26, 2011 at 9:00 a.m.  Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Rogers to approve these dates.  Roll call vote:  Yeas, Marsh, LaJoie, Avery, Sawyers and Rogers.  Nays, none.

 

            Discussion was held on who to hire for cleaning the bathroom facilities at Dunbar Park.  Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Avery to hire John McCormick to clean bathroom facilities at Dunbar Park from May to October.  All were in favor, motion carried.

 

             Discussion was held on the renewal road millage for the August Primary.  Our Attorney, Chuck Palmer has the proposals and will advise us rather to do two proposals or to combine them into one. We will know at the next meeting how to put them on the ballot.   

 

            Public Comments:  There were no comments.

 

            Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by Avery to adjourn the meeting.  All were in favor, motion carried.  The Supervisor adjourned the meeting at 7:50 p.m.
