TOWNSHIP OF BRUCE   
MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING HELD ON MARCH 13, 2008

 

            The regular meeting of the Bruce Township Board was held on March 13, 2008 at the Bruce Township Hall with board members Gallagher, Marsh, Avery, Sawyers and LaJoie present.  Absent none.  Also in attendance were 20        township residents.  The Supervisor called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.

            Public Comments:  There were no public comments.

            The minutes of the regular meeting held on February 14, 2008 were presented.  Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Marsh to approve the minutes as presented.  All were in favor, motion carried.

            Motion was made by Marsh, seconded by Avery to pay the bills.  Checks # 4881 through # 4927 were issued for a total of $ 14,104.45.  All were in favor, motion carried.

            County Commission Report:  Commissioner LaJoie was not present.

            Special Meetings:  Board of Review was held on Monday, March 10th and Tuesday, March 11th.  There were 21 people who attended Board of Review.

`           Zoning Administrator:  There were no permits issued this month. 
Discussion was held on filling the Zoning Administrator/Ordinance Enforcement position, Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals.  Motion was made by Marsh, seconded by Gallagher to advertise in the newspaper for Bruce Township residents to fill the positions with applications being in by April 7, 2008.  In favor were Gallagher, LaJoie, Marsh and Sawyers.  Opposed, Avery.  Motion carried.
Discussion was held on going to a 5 member board for the Planning Commission.  Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Avery to reduce the Planning Commission from a 7 member board to a 5 member board.  All were in favor, motion carried.

            Planning Commission Report:  The Planning Commission met on Wednesday, March 12, 2008. 
            There are two Future Land Use Amendments and Amendment #9 to be voted on.  Treasurer Lajoie requested more time to look over the Future Land Use Amendments.  Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Avery to table the Future Land Use until next meeting.  All were in favor, motion carried.
            Motion was made by Marsh, seconded by LaJoie to accept Amendment #9.  Roll Call vote.   Yeas, Marsh, Avery, Sawyers, Gallagher and LaJoie.  Nays – None.  Amendment adopted.

            Treasurer’s Report:  The Treasurer’s report was read.  The balance of all funds is $507,829.58.  Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Marsh to accept the Treasurers report.  Motion carried.

            Clerk’s Report:  There is a MTA seminar on Cemetery Management and Count Down to Elections 2008 at four locations in Michigan from April 16 – April 29. 
A seminar will be held at the Bavarian Inn Lodge on April 15, 2008, on At Your Service: Meeting Township Needs.

            Firemen’s Report:  The Department had 2 calls.
Discussion was held on sending 4 firemen to New York to look at the 2500 gal. tanker truck for $30,000.00.  The cost would be approximately $2,400.00 for 4 men to drive out and if they purchase the truck to bring it back.  Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Marsh to send 4 firemen to look at the truck.  Motion carried.

            Grounds and Park Report:  There was no report.

             Old Business:  There was no old business.

            New Business: Steve Mason from Lighthouse. Net was present to speak on putting a tower on Township property for high speed internet.  They would like to have a lease to put the tower on Township property.  Motion was made by Marsh, seconded by LaJoie for Mr. Mason to have his Attorney draft up a lease and present it at the next meeting.  All were in favor, motion carried.

            Public Comments:  There were no comments.

            Motion was made by Marsh, seconded by LaJoie to adjourn the meeting.  All were in favor, motion carried.  The Supervisor adjourned the meeting at 7:50 p.m.
