MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING HELD ON FEBRUARY 11, 2010

 

 

            The regular meeting of the Bruce Township Board was held on February 11, 2010 at the Bruce Township Hall with board members Marsh, Avery, Rogers, Sawyers and LaJoie present.  Absent none.  Also present were 5 township residents.  The Supervisor called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

            Public Comments:  There were no comments. 

 

            The minutes of the regular meeting held on January 14, 2010 were presented.  Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Avery to approve the minutes as presented.  All were in favor, motion carried.

 

            Motion was made by Avery, seconded by LaJoie to pay the bills.  Checks # 5886 through # 5917 were presented for a total of $ 14,773.87.    All were in favor, motion carried.

 

            County Commission Report:  Commissioner Don McLean was presented to give an update on recent activities involving the County Commission. 

            The jail addition has been completed.

            A new sound system for the Circuit Court is now in place.

            A video arraignment system has been put together between the Circuit Court and District Court and also the prison in Kincheloe so there is less need to bring prisoners in.

            The County Commission meetings are now recorded and are now on the internet.

            A resolution was passed regarding the Asian carp situation.

            Will be purchasing the City County Building and updating District Court.

            A salary study is almost complete.

            Commission is working with the Veteran’s Committee to update the memorial site at the Court House.

            The County is working with Lighthouse Computer to develop a County internet service with stimulus funds. It involves bringing high speed internet to all residents in the County.

            Commissioner McLean is also working on details to bring a snowmobile trail down to Barbeau.

 

 

Reports of Special Meetings:  The Clerk, Supervisor and the Treasurer reported on some of the seminars that they attended at the State Convention in Grand Rapids.

 

            Zoning Administrator:  There were no permits issued this month.

 

            Planning Commission Report:  The Planning Commission met on Tuesday February 9, 2010.  They worked on some old business.

 

            Treasurer’s Report:  The Treasurer’s report was read.  The balance of all funds is $665,526.43.

 

            Clerk’s Report:  MTA will be holding March Education Programs on “ How to Understand, Evaluate & Negotiate Contracts and ZBA Roles and Responsibilities.”  They will be held in Gaylord on March 10, 2010.

 

            Firemen’s Report:  The Department had 1 car accident call this month.

 

            Grounds and Park Report:  There was no report.

 

            Old Business:  The Board had a work session to discuss the Dangerous Structure Ordinance and we feel that we are now ready to adopt the ordinance.  At the next meeting it will be typed and ready for adoption.

 

            The Board also worked on the Fire Insurance Withholding Program at the work session.  The resolution will be ready for the next meeting.

 

            There will be a tower erected on the corner of 10 Mile Rd. and Riverside Drive for the Coast Guard Rescue 21. 

 

            New Business:   A salary resolution was presented by the Supervisor to remain at $13,600.00 for the following year.  Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Rogers to accept the resolution.  Roll call vote – Ayes, Roger, Marsh, Avery, Sawyers and LaJoie.  Nays – 0.  Resolution adopted.

 

            A salary resolution was presented by the Clerk to remain at $13,600.00 for the following year.  Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by Marsh to accept the resolution.  Roll call vote – Ayes, LaJoie, Marsh, Sawyers, Avery and Rogers.  Nay – 0.

Resolution adopted.

            A salary resolution was presented by the Treasurer to remain at $13,600.00 for the following year.  Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Rogers to accept the resolution.  Roll call vote – Ayes, Sawyers, Marsh, LaJoie, Avery and Rogers.  Nay – 0.  Resolution adopted.

 

            Board of Review will be held on Monday, March 8, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

 

            The Census Bureau has sent paperwork to be signed that the boundaries for Bruce Township are correct.

 

            The Supervisor will attend a Chippewa County Road Board meeting on February 17, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. to find out what roads the Federal and State money will be used on.

 

            Board of Review training will be held on Friday, February 19th in St. Ignace.

 

             On March 3, 2010, the DEQE will be holding a public hearing on a dock for Ken Keeley.  It will be a 6:00 p.m. at the Township Hall.

 

            The Annual Meeting will be held on March 27, 2010 at 9:00 a.m.

 

            A letter was received from Paulette Lightfoot stating that she is interested in serving on the Planning Commission.  It was decided that we would talk to her at the next Planning Commission meeting.

 

            Discussion was held on the new doors in the Township Hall.  The Trustees will work on the situation and bring their results back to the next meeting.

 

            The big refrigeration in the kitchen is still not working correctly.  Trustee Avery will get the phone number of the company that repairs refrigerators for the school.

 

            Public Comments:  We were reminded again of the importance of getting an accurate count for the census.

 

            Motion was made by Rogers seconded by LaJoie to adjourn the meeting.  All were in favor, motion carried.  The Supervisor adjourned the meeting at 8:48 p.m.
