TOWNSHIP OF BRUCE
MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING HELD ON DECEMBER 13, 2007
The regular meeting of the Bruce Township Board was held on December13, 2007 at the Bruce Township Hall with board members Gallagher, Marsh, Avery, Sawyers and LaJoie present. Absent none. Also present were 21 township residents. The Supervisor called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Public Comments: There were no comments.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on November 8, 2007 were presented. Motion was made by Marsh, seconded by LaJoie to approve the minutes as presented. All were in favor, motion carried.
Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Avery to pay the bills. Checks # 4740 through # 4791 were issued for a total of $56,041.16. All were in favor, motion carried.
County Commissioner Report: Commissioner LaJoie stated that the Commissioners are busy doing their budget.
The Fire and Ambulance Department should be getting a check for around $20,000.00 by the first of the year for previously voted millage.
Zoning Administrator: There were 5 permits issued this month. There have been 50 permits issued this year with 50 permits issued at this time last year.
Planning Commission Report: The Planning Commission met on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 with good public turnout. Work continues on the Master Plan with Phase II along with some changes in Phase 1.
Treasurer’s Report: The Treasurers report was read. The balance of all funds is $434,006.01. Motion was made by Marsh, seconded by Avery to accept the Treasurers report. Motion carried.
Clerk’s Report: There will be a 2008 Board of Review Training Seminar on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 in St. Ignace. The Supervisor, Assessor and Board of Review members will attend.
Firemen’s Report: The Department had one fire call this month.
A check was received from the MDNR for the Sleeper Lake Fire in Newberry. $1,506.00 was received for the equipment and $1,064.25 for firemen wages.
Grounds and Park Report: There was no report.
Old Business: There will be no one attending the MTA Annual Convention in Detroit on January 8-11, 2008.
New Business: A letter was read from the Chippewa County Road Commission on estimated road improvement expenditures for 2008 for budget purposes.
A public meeting will be held at 10:00 a.m. on December 14, 2007 at the Chippewa County Road Commission Office to review proposed Federal Funded Transportation Projects to be incorporated into the 2008-2011 State Transportation Improvement Plan.
A letter was read from the Michigan Prisoner Re-Entry Initiative program to help reduce recidivism, reduce crime and make communities safer by working with parole agents to expand the community service tools needed to help paroles successfully reintegrate into their communities. No action was taken.
The Conely Turn Around has been plowed by Ray LaJoie. The Road Commission will plow it from now on.
Discussion was held on ambulance service. Motion was made Sawyers, seconded by Marsh to increase Fire and Ambulance Budget, Contractual Services # 805 by $9,000.00 and decrease General Fund Budget, Contingency #694 by $9,000.00. All were in favor, motion carried.
Public Comments: The question was asked if we would be paving 12 Mile Rd. There are no plans at this time to pave 12 Mile Rd.

Motion was made by Marsh, seconded by LaJoie to adjourn the meeting. All were in favor, motion carried. The Supervisor adjourned the meeting at 7:33 p.m.
