TOWNSHIP OF BRUCE
MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING HELD ON DECEMBER 11, 2008
The regular meeting of the Bruce Township Board was held on December 11, 2008 at the Bruce Township Hall with board members Marsh, Avery, Rogers, Sawyers and LaJoie present. Absent none. Also in attendance were 15 township residents. The Supervisor called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Public Comment: Residents of 12 Mile Rd. were present to inquire about having 12 Mile Rd. paved. There are no plans at this time to pave 12 Mile Rd.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on November 13, 2008 were presented. Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Avery to approve the minutes as presented. All were in favor, motion carried.
Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by Avery to pay the bills. Checks #5299 through # 5338 were presented for a total of $14,048.96. All were in favor, motion carried
County Commission Report: Commissioner LaJoie had no report.
Reports of Special Meetings: There were no reports.
Zoning Administrator: Zoning Administrator Mike Pins has issued 46 permits this year. There is one more that is still to be issued. There has been 23 ordinance violations and all have been resolved.
Planning Commission: The Planning Commission met on Tuesday, December 9, 2008.
The Commission approved a Special Land Use permit for Mr. Underhill.
Discussion was held on gravel pits.
Treasurer’s Report: The Treasurer’s report was read. The balance of all funds is $538,849.63. Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Rogers to accept the Treasurer’s report as presented. Motion carried.
Clerk’s Report: The annual Lagoon maintenance evaluation was done on October 17, 2008. Great Lakes Fire and Safety Equipment have done the range fire hood fire suppression. The Fire Extinguishers were also checked.
Firemen’s Report: The Department had one car fire this month.
Grounds and Park Report: There was no report.
Old Business: The Supervisor attended a County Road Commission meeting and spoke with Rob Laitinen. They will be starting some of our road projects this winter if the weather permits. On 7 Mile Rd from Scenic to Ridge Rd., they are looking into getting some type of excavator with a grinder on the boom to get the trees out of the ditch. They feel this will take care of the major water problem. The Road Commission has a lot of work to get caught up on. They will not be taking any more contracts until they get caught up on the signed contracts.
We received on bid on the water tanker truck. A bid of $517.00 was received from Keith Erickson. Motion was made Avery, seconded by LaJoie to accept the bid of $517.00 from Keith Erickson for the water tanker truck. All were in favor, motion carried.
There will be no one attending the MTA State Convention.
New Business: The terms of the three Board of Review members will be up on December 31, 2008. Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Rogers to appoint Carolyn Person, Melvin VanLuven and Reine Benoit to the Board of Review with the term being January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2010. John Hillock will be the alternate to the Board of Review. Motion carried.
Public Comments: Fire Chief Andrews reported the inspection report at the Holy Family Church on November 19, 2008 has been completed. He also asked the board to consider a resolution to have a Cadet Fire Fighter Program. This was tabled until our January meeting.
The residents from 12 Mile Rd. discussed having their road paved.
Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Rogers to adjourn the meeting. All were in favor, motion carried. The Supervisor adjourned the meeting at 7:40 p.m.
