TOWNSHIP OF BRUCE
MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING HELD ON NOVEMBER 13, 2008
The regular meeting of the Bruce Township Board was held on November 13, 2008 with board members Marsh, Avery, Roger, Sawyers and LaJoie present. Absent none. Also in attendance were 8 township residents. The Supervisor called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Public Comments: There were no comments.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on October 9, 2008 were presented. Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Avery to approve the minutes as presented. All were in favor, motion carried.
Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by LaJoie to pay the bills. Checks # 5254 through # 5298 were issued for a total of $13,419.43. All were in favor, motion carried.
County Commission Report: Commissioner LaJoie was not present.
Reports of Special Meetings: Supervisor Marsh attended the Chippewa County MTA meeting in Kinross in October.
Zoning Administrator: Zoning Administrator, Mike Pins, has issued 44 zoning permits this year.
Planning Commission Report: The Commission discussed new zoning for gravel pits.
Discussion was held on a fence violation on Nicolet Rd. between 7 Mile and 9 Mile Rd.
Discussion was held on changing the wording on seasonal cottages to recreational structures.
Treasurer’s Report: The Treasurer’s report was read. The balance of all funds is $551,967.73. Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Rogers to accept the Treasurer’s report as presented. Motion carried.
Clerk’s Report: On the election held on November 4, 2008 there were 1147 ballots cast. We have 1459 registered voters.
MTA will be hosting a seminar, New Officials Training, on December 11, 2008 at LSSU in Sault Ste. Marie.
Firemen’s Report: There are 4 people taking fire fighting classes.
A fire inspection was done for Holy Family Church on 15 Mile Rd.
The tanker truck will be advertised for sale with the bids to be in by the December board meeting.
The Pig Roast was held on October 18th. The attendance was about the same as last year.
The Fire Hall parking lot has not been graveled.
Grounds and Park Report: No one was present from the Recreation Committee. There were plans for a ball field in the spring.
Old Business: Work on16 Mile Rd. west of M-129 has been completed.
The Supervisor will be meeting with Rob Laitinen of the Chippewa County Road Commission in December to check out other road contracts.
New Business: The Board of Review will be meeting on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at 6:00 p.m.
The MTA Convention will be held in Detroit in January.
The following budget adjustments to the General Fund were made:
Motion was made by Sawyers, seconded by Marsh to increase #804, Dues by $60.00 and decrease #694, Contingency by $60.00. Motion carried.
Motion was made by Sawyers, seconded by Marsh to increase #727, Supervisor Office Supplies by $500.00 and decrease #694, Contingency by $500.00. There were 3 yes votes and 2 no votes. Motion carried.
Motion was made by Sawyers, seconded by LaJoie to increase #740, Fuel by $98.00 and decrease #694, Contingency by $98.00. Motion carried.
Motion was made Sawyers, seconded by LaJoie to transfer $1,065 to Lawn Maintenance #702 and decrease #694, Contingency by $1,065.00. Motion carried.
Motion was made by Sawyers, seconded by Avery to transfer $82.00 to FICA Lawn Maintenance #715 and decrease #694 by $82.00. Motion carried.
Motion was made by Sawyers, seconded by Rogers to transfer $137.00 to Lawn Maintenance Mileage #860 and decrease #694, Contingency by $137.00. Motion carried.
Public Comments: Discussion was held on the cost of ambulance service for the township between 6 Mile Rd. and 9 Mile Rd.
Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by LaJoie to adjourn the meeting. There were 4 yes votes and 1 no vote. Motion carried. The Supervisor adjourned the meeting at 7:40 p.m.
