TOWNSHIP OF BRUCE

MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING HELD ON NOVEMBER 12, 2009

 

 

            The regular meeting of the Bruce Township Board was held on November 12, 2009 at the Bruce Township Hall with board members Marsh, Avery, Rogers, Sawyers and LaJoie present.  Also in attendance were 6 township residents.  The Supervisor called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

            Public Comments:  There were no comments.

 

            The minutes of the regular meeting held on October 8, 2009 meeting were presented.  Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by LaJoie to approve the minutes as presented.  All were in favor, motion carried.

 

            Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Rogers to pay the bills.  Checks #5771 through # 5808 were presented for a total of $ 13,517.78.    All were in favor, motion carried.

 

            County Commissioner Report:  The County Commissioner was not present.

 

            Reports of Special Meetings:  There were no special meetings.

 

            Zoning Administrator:  There have been 38 permits issued this year.  The estimated value of the permits issued is $1,528,380.00. 

 

            Planning Commission Report:  There was a joint meeting of the Planning Commission and the Township Board held on Tuesday, November 10, 2009.  Discussion was held on the resolution that was passed giving the Township Board the authority to make decisions on Special Land Use permits.  The Township Board is requesting that the Planning Commission work on the changes necessary in the Zoning Ordinance to comply with the resolution changes.  It is also recommended that any changes made would be given to the Zoning Board of Appeal members.

 

            Treasurer’s Report:  The Treasurer’s report was read.  The balance of all funds is $633,576.73.

 

            Clerk’s Report:  An election was held on November 3, 2009.  There were 156 voters.  There were 86 of these absent voters.

 

            Firemen’s Report:  Jim Avery reported there had been one call for a gas smell. 

            There was no report on the Pig Roast.

            The light needs fixed on the end of the Fire Hall.  Jim Avery will try and get this fixed.

 

            Grounds and Parks Report:  There was no report.

 

            Old Business:  Discussion was held on the Dangerous Structure Ordinance that Attorney Palmer had sent us.  We will consider the ordinance at a later time when we have some questions answered by the Attorney.  It was also suggested that we review our nuisance ordinance. 

 

            Two furnace maintenance agreement contracts were presented.  Don Earl Heating contract was for an annual cleaning and tune-up for $249.00 and Les Cheneaux Systems contract was for a semi-annual maintenance for $170 twice a year.  The Supervisor will contact both businesses and get some current prices.

 

            A fee was never set for a permit for a black top plant.  Suggestions will be brought to the next board meeting.

 

            New Business:   Land Division was presented for Pete Gregg on 9425 S. M-129.  Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Rogers to accept the land division for Pete Gregg.  Motion carried.

 

            The December Board of Review will be December 15, 2009 at 7:00 p.m.   This is for clerical errors.

 

            Trustee Avery voiced the difficulty we are still having with the double door in the Hall.  It is felt that we need to get this fixed.  The Supervisor will contact Dan Rye Builders and see if we can get it fixed.

 

            Public Comments:  There were no comments.

 

            Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by LaJoie to adjourn the meeting.  All were in favor, motion carried.  The Supervisor adjourned the meeting at 7:45 p.m.
