TOWNSHIP OF BRUCE     
MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING HELD ON OCTOBER 9, 2008 

 

            The regular meeting of the Bruce Township Board was held on October 9, 2008 with board members Marsh, Avery, Rogers, Sawyers and LaJoie present.  Absent none.  Also in attendance were 13 township residents.  The Supervisor called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.

            Public Comments:  There were no comments.

            The minutes of the regular meeting held on September 11, 2008 were presented.  Motion was made by Avery, seconded by LaJoie to approve the minutes as presented.  All were in favor, motion carried.

            Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Rogers to pay the bills.  Checks # 5214 through #5253 were issued for a total of $ 19,731.20.  All were in favor, motion carried.

            County Commission Report:  The Commission is in the process of doing the budget.  The jail should be enclosed by the 15th of November.  The cost of Blue Cross for inmates in the Chippewa County Jail is $677,000.00 a year.

            Reports of Special Meetings:  There were no special meetings.

            Zoning Administrator:  Zoning Administrator, Mike Pins, has issued 44 zoning permits this year.  Last year there were 42 permits issued.

            Planning Commission Report:  There was a lengthy public comment on the gravel pit issue on15 Mile Rd.           Discussion was held on a few of the zoning ordinances.

            Treasurer’s Report:  The Treasurer’s report was read.  The balance of all funds is $547,434.22.  Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Rogers to accept the Treasurer’s report as presented.  Motion carried.

            Clerk’s Report:  The Township water test showed nothing detected.    MTA is sponsoring a workshop on Tax Collecting 101 in Gaylord on November 24th  and in Marquette on November 25th.  There are a lot of absent voter ballots being requested.
 
            Firemen’s Report:  The Department had one call this month.   The 1978 yellow tanker truck is for sale.  The Supervisor will inquire around to see if anyone is interested.   The Firemen’s Pig Roast will be October 18th from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m.

            Ground and Park Report:  The horse shoe courts are up and that is probably all that will be done this year.

            Old Business:  The Senior Citizen’s Dinner was held on October 4th with 158 meals served.
           
            In answer to the question of improvements on the corner of 9 Mile Rd. and M-129 right of way is that this is a clear vision zone and they prefer no one parks there.

            New Business:  A snow removal bid for 2008-2009, November 15, 2008 – April 15, 2009, was given by William Hillock for snow removal at the Bruce township hall and the fire hall for $6,600.00.  Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Avery to accept the snow removal bid from William Hillock for 2008-2009 for $6,600.00.  All were in favor, motion carried.

            The Supervisor checked with Pickford Building Center on getting some siding to replace some damaged siding on the Township Hall.  They don’t make the kind of siding that is on the building but they will try to get something close.

            Public Comments:  Discussion was held on the asphalt plant in the pit on 15 Mile Rd.  The Township is working on a solution to this problem.

            Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by LaJoie to adjourn the meeting.  All were in favor, motion carried.  The Supervisor adjourn the meeting at 7:40 p.m.
