TOWNSHIP OF BRUCE

MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING HELD ON OCTOBER 8, 2009

 

 

            The regular meeting of the Bruce Township Board was held on October 8, 2009 at the Bruce Township Hall with board members Marsh, Avery, LaJoie and Rogers present.  Absent Sawyers.  Also in attendance were 4 township residents.  The Supervisor called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

            Public Comments:  Barbara Hillock gave a report on the Senior Citizen Dinner that was held on October 3, 2009.  There were 50 less people attended than last year.  She gave a copy of the report to the Supervisor.

 

            The minutes of the regular meeting held on September 10, 2009 were presented.  Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Rogers to approve the minutes as presented.  All were in favor, motion carried.

 

            Motion was made by Avery, seconded by LaJoie to pay the bills.  Checks # 5734 through # 5770 were presented for a total of $ 13,676.95.   All were in favor, motion carried.

 

            County Commissioner Report:  The County Commissioner was not present.

 

            Reports of Special Meetings:  There were no special meetings.

 

            Zoning Administrator:  There have been 34 permits issued this year compared to 43 last year.  There have been 11 new home permits issued compared to 9 last year.

 

            Planning Commission Report:  The Planning Commission met on Tuesday, October 6, 2009.  Discussion was held on some of the zoning ordinances.  A work session is scheduled for November 10, 2009 with the Township Board.

 

            Treasurer’s Report:  The Treasurer’s report was read.  The balance of all funds is $624,492.26. 

 

            Clerk’s Report:  The water test was fine with nothing detected.

            A letter was read from Attorney Tom Veum pertaining to the property at 1056 E. 7 Mile Rd.  The house was destroyed by fire in 2006 and Mr. Veum states that his clients will be willing to work with the Township to clean up the site.

            A letter was read from the Chippewa County Health Department wanting to update their volunteer registry for help in case of a disaster, severe weather or a terrorism event.  The flu vaccine is now available at the Health Department.

 

            Firemen’s Report:  The Department was called to one car accident.      

           

            Grounds and Park Report:  The Committee had a meeting and put away the volley ball nets and basket balls.  Dunbar Park is being picked up and getting things done for winter.

 

            Old Business:  The brush and hay around the Township Hall will be done next week.

            Trustee Avery asked about the door in the Hall.  He will show the Supervisor that you can see outside after the meeting.

 

            New Business:  A snow removal bid from November 15, 2009 – April 15, 2010 was presented from William Hillock for $6,900.00.  Last year’s bid was $6,600.00.  Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Rogers to accept the bid of $6,900.00 from William Hillock to snow plow the township hall parking lot and the fire hall from November 15, 2009 – April 15, 2010.  All were in favor, motion carried.

 

            The Supervisor met with the DNR in regards to Dunbar Park and boat launch.  We will receive a written report on the inspection.   Mr. Hooker had suggestions on how to improve the boat launch and that grants are available for improvements.  We will discuss more on this later.

 

            A Furnace Maintenance Contract from Earl Heating and Air Condition was presented.  There is also a contract from Les Cheneaux Systems. Inc. that was not available and the decision was cancelled until the next meeting.

 

            Attorney Palmer sent us a sample ordinance on prohibiting dangerous structures.  The Board will look this over before the next meeting.

 

            The audit report has been completed.  There are a few small changes that need to be made.

 

            Public Comment:  The Firemen’s Dinner will be held on October 17, 2009 from 12:00 noon until 7:00 p.m. The cost is $12.00.

 

            Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by Avery to adjourn the meeting.  All were in favor, motion carried.  The Supervisor adjourned the meeting.
