TOWNSHIP OF BRUCE

MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING HELD ON OCTOBER 14, 2010

 

 

 

            The regular meeting of the Bruce Township Board was held on October 14, 2010 at the Bruce Township Hall with board members LaJoie, Marsh, Sawyers, Avery and Rogers.  Absent none.  Also in attendance were 5 township residents.  The Supervisor called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

            Public Comments:  Question was asked about the Township helping the Historical Society with supplies.  The Board has put $500.00 in the budget for the Society to use for supplies.  They are also in need of a cabinet but there is no space for it. 

            There is also a need for names on the pictures in the Township Hall.

            Another question was how do you go about getting Lechner Road paved?

 

            Barbara Hillock reported that the Homemakers served 149 meals at the Senior Citizen Dinner.  15 meals were sent to shut-ins.  There were 25 volunteers.

 

            The minutes of the regular meeting held on September 9, 2010 were presented.  Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Avery to approve the minutes as presented.  All were in favor, motion carried.

 

            Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Rogers to pay the bills.  Checks # 6244 through # 6284 were issued for a total of $ 26,115.18.   All were in favor, motion carried.

 

            County Commissioner Report:  Commissioner Don McLean was present with a report on what is happening in the County.

 

            Reports of Special Meeting:  No one attended any special meetings.

 

            Zoning Administrator:  There have been 29 permits issued this year.

 

            Planning Commission Report:  The Planning Commission met on Tuesday, October 12, 2010.  The Commission worked on some changes in the ordinance.  The Township Board and the Planning Commission will meet on November 9, 2010 for a work session.

  

            Treasurer’s Report:  The Treasurer’s report was read.  The balance of all funds is $684,881.89.

 

            Clerk’s Report:  A thank you was read from the Child Evangelism Board for the use of the Hall for their banquet.                     

 

            Firemen’s Report:  The Department had one ambulance assist.

            The Pig Roast will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2010 from 12:00 noon until 7:00 p.m.

 

            Grounds and Park Report:  Report will be discussed under new business.

 

            Old Business:  Zoning Board of Appeals:  Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Avery to appoint Dale Walsh and John Bumstead to the Zoning Board of Appeals.  All were in favor, motion carried.  Treasurer LaJoie will contact Ron Thompson to see if he is interested in being an alternate to the Zoning Board of Appeals.

 

            New Business:  The culvert at the Township Hall has to be repaired.  A bid of $7,500.00 was presented by Norris Construction Company to remove and replace 75 ft. of 18 inch culvert and install a new culvert with filter fabric.  Replace sand and aggregate and repave culvert area and patch additional areas in parking lot as needed.  Motion was made by Marsh, seconded by Avery to replace culvert and accept bid of $7,500.00 from Norris Construction Company.  All were in favor, motion carried.

 

            A snow removal bid for 2010-2011 was presented from William Hillock for $6,900.00 for snow removal from November 15, 2010 through April 15, 2011 at the Township parking lot and the fire hall lot.  Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Rogers to accept the Hillock bid for $6,900.00 for snow removal.  All were in favor, motion carried.

 

            The following Budget Adjustments were made to the General Fund Budget:

                        Motion was made by Sawyers, seconded by Marsh to increase #741/930, Maintenance and Repair by $3,000.00 and decrease #694, Contingency by $3,000.00.  Motion carried.

                        Motion was made by Sawyers, seconded by LaJoie to increase # 969, Library Services by $300.00 and decrease #694, Contingency by $300.00.  Motion carried.

 

             The Dunbar Park has been inspected by the DNR.  We need to do something with the cement planks. There are grants available that pay 50% of the cost. It is recommended that trees be cut around the bathroom.  There are bumps in the gravel.  We will think about these things over the winter and see what we will do in the spring.

 

            We need to replace the signs that were taken from the front of the Hall.  The Supervisor will get the two signs made.                

 

             Some things that we need to think doing at a later date is looking into buying a new lawn mower, some new siding on the front of the building and some painting inside.

 

            Public Comments:  The Bruce Township School sign will be brought over and stored at the fire hall for the winter.

            The question was asked where the dirt piles are going and when they are going to be moved.

 

            Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Rogers to adjourn the meeting.  All were in favor, motion carried.  The Supervisor adjourned the meeting at 8:50 p.m.
