TOWNSHIP OF BRUCE
MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING HELD ON OCTOBER 13, 2005
The regular meeting of the Bruce
Township Board was held on October 13, 2005 at the Bruce Township Hall with
board members Gallagher, Marsh, Avery, Sawyers and
LaJoie present. Also in attendance were 10 township residents.
The Supervisor called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
Public Comments: There were no comments.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on September 8, 2005 were presented.
Motion was made by Avery, seconded by LaJoie to approve the minutes as presented.
All were in favor, motion carried.
Motion was made by Marsh, seconded
by Avery to pay the bills. Checks # 3488 through # 3536 were presented for a
total of $9,996.75. All were in favor, motion
carried.
County Commission Report: The County Commission held their Truth in Taxation Hearing and there will be a drop in the millage rate in 2005.
Tim McKee is doing an excellent job in writing grants in the 911 area.
Special Meetings: The 27th
Annual Bruce Township Senior
Citizen Dinner was held on October 1, 2005. There were 161 meals served. The
meal was delicious and a
good time was had by everyone.
Zoning Administrator: There have been 8 permits issued this month. There have been 63 permits issued this year.
Planning Commission Report: The Planning
Commission held a public hearing on September 20, 2005 to review the results
of the questionnaire that Township residents
responded to and discuss the Master Plan goals and policies for the community.
A public hearing was held on October 11, 2005 for a Special Land Use for Amerigas to construct a bulk propane facility at 7151 S. M-129. The permit was approved.
A public hearing was held on October
11, 2005 on Zoning Amendment No. 5. It is the recommendation of the Planning
Commission that the Township Board
adopt Zoning Amendment No. 5.
Motion was made by Marsh, seconded by Gallagher that Ordinance Amendment No. 5 be adopted. Roll call vote – Yeas – Marsh, Avery, Gallagher. Nays – Sawyers and LaJoie. Amendment No.5 was adopted.
Treasurers Report: The balance of all funds is $373,484.01.
Clerks Report: The water test shows nothing was detected.
The Michigan Township Association will hold their 53rd Annual Educational Conference on January 24 – 27 in Grand Rapids.
Firemen’s Report: The Pig Roast will be held on October 15, 2005 from 12:00 until 8:00. There was one fire call this month. The prison will paint the fire department pickup if we supply the material and they will supply the labor.
Grounds and Park Report: Two new signs have been put up for directions to Dunbar Park.
Old Business: The contract with the Department of Corrections was presented.
Effective October 1, 2005, the daily per diem for a 10 hour day will increase to $18.75 per day, per inmate and the rate for an 8 hour day will increase to $15.00 per day, per inmate. Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Avery to renew the contract with the Department of Corrections for 2005-2006. All were in favor, motion carried.
The Supervisor spoke with Larry Perron and they have decided to use the parking lot at the school for transferring students from one bus to another.
Pre-buy with Autore Oil Company was $4,500.00 for the Township Hall and $3,000.00 for the Fire Hall.
New Business: Chippewa County Road Commission presented a contract to the Township to put guardrails on the bridge on 12 Mile Rd. west of M-129. Any decisionwas tabled until next meeting when more information will be available.
A letter was read from Carolyn Person asking the Township to sponsor the Bruce Township Historical Society. Discussion was held as to rather this would be anexpenditure that the Township could do. More legal information is needed before any decision can be made.
Discussion was held on the lease agreement for renting the Township Hall. The lease needs to be reviewed and possibly revised to cover costs for damage.
10 Mile Rd. has been black topped.
A letter was received from the City of Sault Ste. Marie advising us that the ambulance fee will increase from the current $625.00 per run to $675.00 per run. This will be in effect October 1, 2005.
Public Comments: There were no comments.
Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Marsh to adjourn the meeting. All were in favor, motion carried.
The Supervisor adjourned the meeting at 9:00 p.m.
