TOWNSHIP OF BRUCE

MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING HELD ON January 14, 2010

 

 

            The regular meeting of the Bruce Township Board was held on January 14, 2010 at the Bruce Township Hall with board members Marsh, Avery, Rogers, Sawyers and LaJoie present. Absent none. Also present were 10 township residents.  The Supervisor called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

            Public Comments:  Alex Strobehn was present and is running for State Representative.

 

            The minutes of the regular meeting held on December 10, 2009 were presented.  Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Rogers to approve the minutes as presented.  All were in favor, motion carried.

 

            Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Rogers to pay the bills.  Checks # 5849 through # 5885 were presented for a total of $ 11,980.20.   All were in favor, motion carried.

 

            County Commission Report:  There was no report.

 

            Reports of Special Meetings:  There were no special meetings.

 

            Zoning Administrator:  There were 39 permits issued in 2009.

 

            Planning Commission Report:  The Commission met on Tuesday, January 12, 2010.  There were two commission members resigned.  Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by Avery to accept the resignation of Carolyn Person and Linda Little from the Planning Commission.  All were in favor, motion carried.

 

            Treasurer’s Report:  The Treasurer’s report was read.  The balance of all funds is $599,840.18.

 

            Clerk’s Report:  The Hall water report was okay.

            A letter was read from the Chippewa County Health Department saying that our food service license will no longer be “fee exempt.”  Beginning in 2010/2011 our fee status will change to “1/2 of the regular food service fee” that other profit businesses will pay.  The fee will be $207.00.

 

            Firemen’s Report:  The Department had two calls.  There was an ambulance assist and a call for the smell of propane.

 

            Grounds and Park Report:  There was no report.

 

            Old Business:  The Dangerous Structure Ordinance was discussed and was tabled until next meeting.  It was decided to have a work session to work out some wording before the February board meeting.

 

            Discussion was again held on the condition of the new doors in the Township Hall.  We have had no results in getting the problem with the doors resolved.  The Supervisor will have someone looking at them tomorrow.

 

            New Business:  The Fire Insurance Withholding Program was tabled until after discussion at the board work session.

 

            We are looking for two members for the Planning Commission and an alternate member for the Zoning Board of Appeals.  If anyone is interested, please call the Township office.

 

            The following budget adjustments were made to the General Fund Budget:

                        Motion was made by Sawyers, seconded by Marsh to increase #702, Election Salary by $40.00 and decrease #694, Contingency by $40.00.  Motion carried.

                        Motion was made by Sawyers, seconded by LaJoie to increase #702, Recycle Trailer by $1200.00 and decrease #694, Contingency by $1200.00.  Motion carried.

                        Motion was made Sawyers, seconded by LaJoie to increase #715, Recycle FICA by $95.00 and decrease #694, Contingency by $95.00.  Motion carried.

 

            Public Comments:  It was asked if the Township could get a road closed sign for Lower Hay Lake Road between 9 Mile and 11 Mile when the road is being worked on.

            Comments were made about the doors in the Township Hall.

 

            Motion was made by Rogers, seconded by Avery to adjourn the meeting.  All were in favor, motion carried.  The Supervisor adjourned the meeting at 7:35 p.m.
