TOWNSHIP OF BRUCE

MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING HELD ON JULY 12, 2007

 

The regular meeting of the Bruce Township Board was held on July 12, 2007 at the Bruce Township Hall with board members Gallagher, Marsh, Avery, Sawyers and LaJoie present. Absent none. Also in attendance were 8 township residents. The Supervisor called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Public Comments: There were no comments.

The minutes of the regular meeting held on June 14, 2007 were presented. Motion was made by Marsh, seconded by Avery to approve the minutes as presented. All were in favor, motion carried.

Motion was made by Avery, seconded by LaJoie to pay the bills. Checks # 4535 through #4569 were issued for a total of $14,458.54. All were in favor, motion carried.

County Commission Report: There was no report due to the absence of Commissioner LaJoie.

Special Meetings: There were no special meetings to report on.

Zoning Administrator: There were 6 permits issued in the last month. Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Avery to advertise for a Zoning Administrator for Bruce Township. Motion carried.

Planning Commission Report: The Planning Commission did not meet this month.

Treasurer’s Report: The Treasurers report was read. The balance of all funds is $500,146.53. Motion was made by Marsh, seconded by Avery to accept the report as presented. All were in favor, motion carried.

Clerk’s Report: The Township Hall water test showed nothing detected.

MTA is holding a seminar on Examining Financial Statements and Exploring Township Investments on August 21, 2007 at the Little Bear Arena in St. Ignace.

There were 127 township residents who participated in Spring

Clean Up at a cost of $2,000.50.

Firemen’s Report: There was no report.

Grounds and Park Report: Dave Norman, Chairman of the Grounds and Park Committee, reported the soccer nets have arrived and will need to be assembled. The Committee is looking at some playground equipment from Burtons. They will be working on horse shoe pits at Dunbar and the Township Park. They are still trying to make arrangements to get some wood chips from Nettleton’s in DeTour.

A public hearing was opened and held to review the Township Parks & Recreation Plan and Land Grant Request for purchase of 28 acres of property on E. 9 Mile Rd. for a Public Boat Launch.

The plan was presented to the public for comments.

The public hearing was closed.

Old Business: There was no old business.

New Business: Two bids were received for the Assessor’s Contract. A bid of $21,600.00 was received from Sherry Burd. A bid of $17,121.00 was received from Ken Brown. Motion was made by Marsh, seconded by LaJoie to hire Ken Brown as our Assessor for a term of three years at $17,121.00 a year. All were in favor, motion carried.

Land Division was presented for David Brown on S. M-129 and 8 Mile Rd. Motion was made by LaJoie, seconded by Avery to approve the land division for David Brown. All were in favor, motion carried.

Trustee Marsh invited everyone to a picnic sponsored by The Dafter Lions Club at Dunbar Park on August 4, 2007.

The Treasurer’s computer has crashed. It is five years old and has been repaired once. Motion was made by Avery, seconded by Marsh to purchase a new computer for the Treasurer. All were in favor, motion carried.

Public Comments: St. Mary’s Sportsman Club will be holding a Community Garage Sale on Friday and Saturday, July 21 and July 22.

Motion was made by Marsh, seconded by Avery to adjourn the meeting. All were in favor, motion carried, The Supervisor adjourned the meeting at 7:40 p.m.
